Team 1 defeats Washington, 4-2
With wind behind them, CA passing keeps WA pinned in their own half most of the 1st half. 11 mins in, Kira streaks down right, cross to Bunny for header, 1-0. WA ties game 1-1, but CA quickly goes back on attack. Chioma nails free kick just under crossbar from 25 yds, 2-1. Natalie looks left, drives low shot right, banks off post and in, 3-1. Just before halftime, Kira and Bunny repeat their earlier play - drive down right, cross, header, 4-1. 2nd half passing is a little off as CA heads into wind. Shots are held up by the wind and crosses bend back behind targets. CA gets some chances but can't capitalize - after beating keeper, several shots at vacant goal are deflected by WA defenders. Game ends 4-2 with late WA goal.
Team 2 defeats Oregon, 1-0
Against the wind, CA has trouble stringing together enough passes to finish, but does create a few chances. Wieger cross to Katie almost scores. Wieger volleys Nicole corner kick, just misses. With the wind in 2nd half, CA is frustrated as through passes run too long. 5 mins before end Elena outmuscles defender in penalty area and carefully places ball in right corner of goal, 1-0. Game belongs to the keepers, though. Val makes 7 saves in 1st half, including leaping sticky-fingers catch on shot destined for upper corner and diving tackle on OR forward about to shoot. In 2nd half Parodi comes up big with 5 saves, including a diving tackle and two hard shots from point-blank range.
Team 1 defeats Oregon, 5-3
CA takes time getting settled down, OR gets first goal in 23rd min. 30th min, Chioma outmuscles defender on rt side, dribbles to within yds of keeper, square-pass to Whitney, one-touch, 1-1. Two mins later, OR keeper drops Chioma's free kick, Dana hustles for easy tap-in, 2-1. One min into 2nd half Bunny speeds down rt side, cross into middle bounces off defender, Parker places rebound past keeper, 3-1. 5 mins later perfect thru-pass breaks Bunny open, places it under charging keeper, 4-1. OR PK makes it 4-2. Natalie fake in left side of box shakes defender and freezes keeper, far post shot, 5-2. Seconds left in game, quirky high bounce on OR lob makes it 5-3.
Team 2 defeats Washington, 3-1
Both teams trade several hard tackles, setting tone for very physical game. 18 mins in, Elena takes advantage of bad WA pass, dribbles in close and places shot under keeper, 1-0. Quick pace of CA game takes its toll - just before halftime, bad WA header drops behind defender, Elena collects ball but exhausted WA defenders give up, Elena easily trots toward goal, sidesteps keeper, 2-0. In 2nd half, WA cross and volley make it 2-1. Seconds left in game, Hillary beats defender in left side of box, dribbles to within 8 yds, WA keeper plays angle perfectly, but Hillary is better - precision shot low inside near post, 3-1.
Team 1 defeats Team 2, 1-0
Both teams play well, but Team2 starts a little more focused, challenging Andrea (Team1 keeper) to make several saves. Mandy makes several good drives deep into Team1 territory on rt side. Team1 has good chance when Caroline beats keeper on right but shot from near the end line rebounds off post, excellent Team2 defense thwarts Whitney's follow-up attempt. 3 mins into 2nd half Parker sets up Natalie with square-pass left, who plays wind perfectly with long shot to upper right corner of goal, 1-0.
Championship Final: Team 1 defeats Team 2, 2-1
Both teams start like each has something to prove. Game quickly turns into defensive battle - Team1 defense (Angela, Lopez, Amanda, Dani) keeps game in Team2's half of the field, but determined Team2 defense (Cassie, Kim, Maggie, Vanessa) shuts down Team1's potent central attack. Natalie and Chioma (Team1) rule the outside lanes but are kept outside, while Erica (Team2) commands counterattacks thru the middle. 15 mins into 2nd half Elena (Team2) finally opens scoring with 30 yd shot that sails into upper part of goal - Team2 up, 1-0. Team1 starts subbing in fresh legs, and with 12 mins left ties the game 1-1 on a rifle shot by Lizzy from 18 yds. 8 mins later Whitney beats Team2 to end line down rt side and fires sharp cross which Caroline volleys home for game winner, 2-1 for Team1.
